Caledonian Railway Locomotives

LOCO100
Caledonian Railway Single No. 123
Built by Nielson & Co. of Glasgow for the 1886 Edinburgh International Exhibition, this unique locomotive was subsequently purchased by the Caledonian Railway. The locomotive featured 7ft. dia. driving wheels, with a sanding system powered from the Westinghouse compressed air brake reservoir. No. 123 was reboilered in 1905 and again in 1924 by the LMS who renumbered her 14010. The original tender was built for the exhibition but replaced by a standard Caledonian design in service and which featured a large toolbox on the rear bufferbeam. This kit features etched nickel silver for the body and the chassis for both the locomotive and tender. The tender chassis is designed for compensated or sprung assembly. It can be easily adapted to place some of its weight onto the dragbeam of the loco for increased adhesion. Detail components are in whitemetal, with lost wax brass castings for all the smaller items and turned, sprung buffers. The kit is supplied with boiler and fittings to produce the model in pre-1924 condition and includes the tender.
